All Clinton Bedding mattresses are built symetrically (2 sided) with the following levels of construction:
| Core | the innerspring, wire mesh, a flexolator, side supports and handles |
| Top and Bottom Underlayment | a vaiety of foam and cotton |
| Top and Bottom Quilted Panel | to ensure comfort and durability |
Clinton Bedding only uses the highest quality material to handcraft their mattresses.
The innerspring unit is the core support of the mattress. How the bed feels and how long it will last depends to a large extent on the innerspring design.
There are several types of innerspring mattress constructions, each with its own unique features, including the coil design, the gauge of the wire used for the springs, the number of turns per coil and the number of coils.
Simple coil count, alone, is not an indication of either firmness or quality. While coil count is a factor, coil design and the guage of coil wire are a bigger factor than coil count for firmness. The lower the gauge of the wire, the firmer the support of the individual coil.
Finally, a strong border wire and edge support system helps prevent edge breakdown and sagging. (6 guage wire in Clnton Bedding mattresses)
The first layer on top of the innersprings is a composite made from fabric materials mixed with a bonding agent. We call this the "posturizing pad" Since this material can be quite stiff, its thickness has an important effect on the "firmness" feel of the mattress. This layer is supported over the innerspring by a protective 20 gauge steel mesh to keep the material from ultimately penetrating into the springs and resulting in a "lumpy" feel.
The next layers are foam paddings of various densities and thicknesses or foam in combination with natural materials. Clinton Bedding continues to manufacture bedding as we did fifty years ago with superior components including COTTON batting innertufted to the innerspring to insure stability, firmness and durability. Cotton is a natural fiber which allows the foam upholstery to last five to ten years longer then those mattresses made without cotton. Cotton also provides greater comfort than can be achieved with poly foams alone.
Clinton Bedding uses various combinations of high density super soft foam, high density high resilient foam, super soft foam, convoluted foam, memory foam and cotton padding to achieve a range of "comfort levels" or degrees of softness/ firmness providing differing "feels" to match individual sleep preferences.
